It took a goal each from Alice Cox and Anna Jamison to win this week's match against Princes Street Galaxy. Nice work, girls, and a good effort again from everyone else. Bella made a surprise appearance as goalkeeper in the second half, a change from her usual role in attack. Poor Anna Schurink-Muller had a tough game - the ball hit her nose in the first half, then she was kicked in the ankle during the second half. This hurt so much that Graham had to carry her off...

Week 6: Devils squeak home against Taroona, 1-0
And what a tight game it was this week, the second one against a Taroona side in the last three weeks. Bella kicked the solitary goal of the match in the first half. It ricocheted off their goalkeeper through the posts. The ground, on the banks of the river, has the best views in Hobart though finding the carpark can be confusing.

Week 5: Big win against Rosetta 7-0
Rosetta tried hard but just couldn't score today despite a lot of shouted encouragement from their coach. The score could have been even higher as there was a disputed 'out-of-play' in the first half just after a Devils goal.
Many of our players dazzled with their moves and were equally strong in attack and defence. Anna Jamison had a lovely run towards goal before passing cleverly to her team-mates who then scored. And congratulations to Tessa for scoring her first goal of the season (two goals, in fact). Other goals came from Bella, Bijou and AJ - sorry if I've missed anyone out. There's a detailed match review below.
It looks like a sea of red in both these shots but Rosetta also had some skilful players. Poor Alice Mary made two trips to the ground, the first one before 11am after misreading the 1pm kick-off time.
Match notes
Goal scorers: Tessa - 2, Bella - 1, Bijou - 2, AJ - 2, Rhianna - almost!
"The girls worked well as a team," says Sideline Sally, "with Alice Cox and Rosie solid in defence". Rosie was also goalkeeper in the first half with Lillie wearing the gloves after half-time. Our forwards Rhianna, Bella and AJ were doing very well with their passing. Mae was fearless tackling her opponents.
Rosetta were good adversaries but their repeated attempts to score were repelled by West Hobart's impenetrable backline. It was a beautiful day for a beautiful game.
We're keen to get regular match comments for this blog from all those parents who watch from the sidelines - come on, send them in!

Week 4: Devils beat Margate 3-2
Well done for today's win against Margate Green (in yellow shirts). The pronounced slope on the ground favoured the team kicking downhill which was the Devils in the first half. Margate fought back hard after halftime but couldn't overcome the Devils' strong opening.
Coach Graeme had to call back several players who'd rushed off to get sausages and fizzy drinks at the break. Michael Jamison (AJ's dad) did a first-rate job subbing players, a busier task this week now the team's back at full strength with Eva and May's return.

Next game - 10 May
West Hobart Devils are playing Rosetta at Claremont Reserve. The grounds are adjacent to the Cadbury's factory carpark. Kick-off is 1:00PM.
